The site said that the likely date is Wednesday the 9th, but it’s possible that it could actually take place the day before. Apple’s recent iPhone events have taken place on Tuesdays the same week, and so the event may actually happen on the 8th.
The company tends to hold its iPhone launch events in early September, and then release them on the Friday of the following week.
