THE Maitama residence of the Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, was Friday morning partly destroyed by fire.
According to an eyewitness at the number 48, Lake Chad crescent, Maitama, private residence of the Senate President, the fire incidence began from the gymnasium located within the compound.
The fire incidence took place around 10.am when the Senate President was receiving a delegation led by the Emir of Kano, Lamido Muhammad Sanusi, in a courtesy visit to his office at the National Assembly, said the eyewitness.
But operatives of the Nigeria Fire Service responded quickly and put off the fire.
Saraki has been living in his private house in Maitama since he became Senate President in June. The official residence of the Senate President located in Apo Legislators’ Quarters, Abuja was sold to the immediate past President of the Senate, David Mark, during the sale of federal government owned houses in Abuja during the regime of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
A new official residence for the Senate President is still under construction within the premises of the National Assembly at the Three-Arms-Zone in Abuja.
